Nordic Coastal Christmas

Just a peek at my Nordic Coastal Christmas.  I hung shells from the seashore on our northfield pine by stringing them with white twine.  I will share more soon.

Bella Bleu is recovering and we are in the middle of a four day storm.  Our kitchen faucet broke the night we brought Bella home from the Vet.  Now we have a new Moen modern farmstyle.  Merry Christmas to me!

November Into December

Lingering in the last days of November.  I'm always sad to see it go, but December brings good tidings that I will linger in as well.   At the moment I am tenderly comforting my sweet Bella Bleu.  She spent the day yesterday at the Vet getting some serious dental work done.  Eleven teeth were extracted.  Her Vet says she is a very healthy dog with the bad luck of being born with bad teeth.  Thankfully she is going to be fine.  We are watching Christmas movies together while my oldest son puts the twinkle lights on our Cottage.

The Winter Sea

"Deep is calling on deep..."

I have been painting the sea in its winter layers.

It roars from the depths, waves crash, and the tide sweeps over the dunes.

The shore is barren, the wind blows, winter has arrived.

"Deep is calling on deep,
in the roar of waters;
your torrents and all your waves swept over me."  Ps. 42

And the new subway sign in white wash with 'Pacific Coast' script in grey.  Available in my etsy shop Seawashed.

Alongshore at home...

One of the reasons I enjoy my little etsy shop so much is the customers I meet.  I have met the kindest people, many whom have become friends through extended conversations in messages and emails.   One such customer shared with me a poem he wrote during hurricane Sandy.  I thought it shared such a personal glimpse of the storm that I asked if I could share it with all of you here on my blog.

Sandy - Storm - Night Before
--------------------------------------

Alongshore at home,
light rain and
silence become unbound...
By downed leaves,
strewn 'cross the ground,
hints of storm to come.

At the harbor on their moorings
...the boats,
ride quietly but warily
afloat.
Noses pointed to the light north wind,
seeming to seek a sense...
like sleeping animals with each breath,
sniffing for danger scents.

On Singing Beach,
facing south to the sea,
light rain turns mist,
there are no waves to see...
But at water's edge,
swells sneak in and rise,
breaking wide and white,
a far storm's surprise.
